The Impact of Certain European Pillar of Social Rights’ Initiatives on Bulgaria

The present paper analyses and summarizes the estimates regarding the potential effects from the implementation of specific measures of the European social pillar on the Bulgarian economy and society. In particular, the impact of the following three initiatives within the pillar are explored: 1/ The impact of the Minimum Wages Directive proposed by the European Commission on the Bulgarian workers’ wellbeing and 2/ The impact of the Work-life Balance on the current Bulgarian legislation. The counclusion is that the pillar has the potential to bring change and improve the social status of low-wage workers in Bulgaria.
